Rocky, Snowball and Donna

After not having a dog in twenty seven years, I told my husband it's time we get one. I found Rocky and Snowball, two male, 5 yr old Bichons on a web site called Petfinder.  Sight unseen, I put in an application for them. The only draw back was that they must remain together. I thought, "well, what could be the difference between one or two". Previously from New Jersey, Rocky and Snowball came to live with us in March, 2001. Their description was absolutely right, they are wonderful dogs. My husband felt that they would be great to take to a nursing home as therapy dogs. Nursing homes, to me, can be very depressing and I didn't feel that would be something I would enjoy doing.

A friend of mine is a member of Paws and asked me to go along with her and her dogs to Genesis Elder Care in Quakertown. Not knowing what to expect, I went. My son went along and took Snowball and I took Rocky. I was so impressed at how friendly everyone was and how welcome the group made us feel. We went from room to room and visited with the different residents. All I heard was "thank you so much for coming" and "thank you so much for bringing your dogs".  It was such a rewarding experience.  Rocky went up to a resident that, honestly, I would have walked right by.  As if instinct, he went next to her wheel chair and sat right underneath her hand.  I thought she didn't even notice, but then I saw her hand move to pet him.  Well, I was hooked. I have met so many wonderful people, and made so many new friends.  I never knew that having dogs would change my life. The dogs have not only added so much joy to our family, they have opened up a whole new world for me. They have not only opened my eyes, they have also opened my heart.

Sincerely, Donna , Rocky and Snowball
