People with a limited life expectancy sometimes need extra support. This extra support is given through Hospice. Being a Therapy Dog and Hospice volunteer brings a special level of comfort. Our main opportunity through this program is to meet some of these needy people and just let them know we care. ATTENTION HOME CAPTAINS New responsibilities: 1. Notify homes of cancellations. You are now responsible to call the home to cancel for inclement weather or other reason. We are not going to use the radio station. Call the home (your decision) and then call or email the regulars. They will be told to check with you if they suspect a cancellation. If you are unable to do this, please notify Joyce. 2. Call the home one week before you visit to check on widespread viruses.. Also to remind them to "talk up the dog visit!" 3. Miss you cards to regulars who miss a couple of months. 4. Thank you cards to new people who visit your home. You will need to get their address. 5. Watch for problems on visits. 6. Help with observations of new people and their dogs. Vickie Cohen is offering therapy dog training in Quakertown,
We sorry but we have decided that in interests of respecting the rights of home residents we will not be posting photos of members with residents unless written permission has been granted by the resident or their power of attorney. We discourage members from asking residents for their permission unless they are personal friends of the family. Asking for an elderly person's signature on anything can be upsetting, confusing and inappropriate. Please DO send in those great pictures of your therapy dogs and yourselves to ezwez@verizon.net (6/12/02)
Every home now has a sponsoring captain and they are doing a great job! Do you know who your captain is? Click Here for a Complete List. If you can't attend a visit, please let your captain know. Support the nursing home of your choice, because by doing so, you are supporting your captain. Don't forget about PWP Tee Shirts! Only $12.00 each, we should all wear them and they look great. See Joyce. Name Tags identify you as a therapy dog handler and are only $6.00 per tag. Name tags may only be purchased after your dog has achieved certification. See Heidi Snyder. And if you aren't certified yet you need to see Joyce. |
